I haven't blogged for a while. It isn't that I don't have a lot to blog about. In fact I think it is the opposite. I have so much I want to blog about that I don't know where to start. Then I don't have the time. Finally, what I wanted to blog about isn't that notable anymore so I don't bother. Has this happened to anyone else? Probably. I doubt I am unique in this regard.
Since I have family that have Macs I was very happy to see that Camino released version 1.5 and that OpenOffice released an alpha version that runs native on the Mac. This is great news. Except I tried the new Camino and it still doesn't get past some of the simpler javascript sites since it doesn't announce itself as the mozilla or firefox it is based upon. While I understand it is not either of those but it's own entity and thus announces as such I don't understand why you would yet again alienate your users since they STILL won't be able to use those sites they so desire. I didn't try the OOo for Mac as it is a 132MB download and clearly states on the site that it will CRASH. So I figured I would skip it until it gets to be more stable. Don't get me wrong I think stuff like this is great for the Mac and will eventually be VERY useful, Camino is useful now but sites will still balk if they only check for IE or FireFox which is a shame because it does look very nice.
Apple released Safari for Windows. It's only a beta, looks just like the Mac version, and still requires Quicktime. Is it me or is Apple forcing Quicktime on Windows just a little TOO MUCH. Safari seems pretty stable on Windows. I'm not sure how useful it will be since you already have both IE and FireFox pretty entrenched on Windows but what the heck the more the merrier. :)
Oh yeah, Apple also announced that Leopard the next version of the Mac OS X will be out in October. Finally, they also announced that the iPhone will be released June 29th and that developers will be able to create apps for it.
