Why???
This is exactly what is wrong in GNOME. It is sad to see it has also spilled over to Maemo apps too. Why do we need to install another program in order to change these options? Why isn't there an advanced button or something offering these options in the program settings dialog? I just don't get it. Can someone please explain?

Not sure I would blame the entire platform, but I agree having to install another app to change what should be a preference is ridiculous.
It was my understanding that this was a platform based design. An attempt to make it easy for most users while having a clean interface.
Another example is gTwitter. In order to switch between the two different display formats you must drill down into gconf-editor again to make that switch possible.
There are many other too. I'm not saying GNOME is bad. I think it has some fantastic apps. I just don't agree with the 'let's hide the program options' that seems to be happening.
